1. 黑白装饰画中往往不直接运用灰色，而是用交叠穿插的块画和线条形成了视觉上的灰色区域。
2. 后印象派为现代油画的发展起到了奠基的作用。文森特·梵高也是后印象派的代表人物之一。
3. 15世纪佛兰德斯画家凡·爱克在前人研究的基础上，发明了一种易于干涸的油彩混合颜料绘画的方法。因此他被称为油画的创始人，但比较合理的说法则是凡·爱克把油画这种艺术形式发展得更加完美了。
