1. 可以说是奥古斯塔夫·莫罗（Gustave Moreau,1826-1898）塑造了马蒂斯。莫罗曾对马蒂斯说过“在艺术上，你的方法越简单，你的感觉越明显。”
2. 印象主义是一个松散的艺术社团。这个社团没有明确的纲领。艺术家集合在一起，仅仅因为画风比较一致，便于共同举办展览。
3. 后印象派将形式主义艺术发挥到极致，几乎不顾及任何题材和内容。
