- 在十九世纪末，许多曾受到印象主义鼓舞的艺术家开始反对印象派，他们不满足于刻板片面的追求光色，强调作品要抒发艺术家的自我感受和主观感情，于是开始尝试对色彩及形体表现性因素的自觉运用，后印象派从此诞生。
- 洛可可（Rococo），最初指的是始于路易十五世时代的室内装饰。
- 石涛 (公元1641－约1724年)，俗名朱若极，他本是明皇室的后裔。南明亡国以后，幼小的石涛被人抱着才得以逃命。后削发为僧，法名原济、道济，字石涛。题画别号甚多，如苦瓜和尚、 清湘老人、清湘陈人、大涤子、瞎尊者、阿长、济山僧等等。
