- 油画是西方绘画最重要的画种之一。采用油画颜料绘制作品的历史可以追溯到中世纪，到15世纪才开始被广泛使用，16世纪中叶以后，油画达到相当完美的程度。
- 超现实主义的艺术家为了表达奇发异想，也采用了种种的特殊技法，如、拓印法（frottage）、黏贴法（collage）、自动性技法（automatism）等。此外也采用精细而写实的手法。
- 野兽派 1905年产生于法国的松散的美术社团。这个社团没有共同遵守的明确目标。没有发表过宣言和理论主张。野兽主义这个名称是偶然产生的。
