温斯洛 荷马（Winslow Homer，1836～1910）是19世纪美国最出色的现实主义绘画大师，国内亦称：霍麦、霍姆

　　荷马出生于波斯顿一商人家庭，曾在纽约全国美术设计学院接受过艺术教育，年轻时为报刊杂志画插图。

　　1862年后开始从事油画创作。美国南北战争期间，以随军美术记者的身份多次赴前线写生，报道战争情况，创作了一批反映战争生活的油画作品。《前线的俘虏》是一幅使他获得声誉的战争题材的作品。

　　1866年，荷马曾去欧洲周游数日，回国后以美国人的日常生活为主要题材，进行油画、水彩画的创作。

　　1881年，荷马来到英国，画了不少英国式的水彩画。

　　1883年回国，定居美国缅因州海边，开始了后半生的艺术生涯。他的作品在题材、技法上都摆脱了欧洲的影响，具有美国的民族风格，画风细致自然，色彩明快，感情丰富，充满诗意和抒情意味，颇受人们的欢迎。

　　特别是晚年一些反映渔民生活的画，气势恢弘，情感丰厚，成为一种美国精神的象征。他的代表作品有《新泽西州的长堤》、《墨西哥湾的海流》、《生命线》等。
